Hi there! I’m Katie, an elementary special education teacher with over 17 years of experience. My journey started with a degree in elementary education, but I quickly realized I needed more expertise in working with diverse students. So, I earned my Master’s in special education and have been dedicated to the field ever since. I’ve spent most of my career supporting students with severe special needs, and while the work is incredibly rewarding, it can also be overwhelming at times. Through years of experience and support, I’ve honed my skills in organization and creative problem-solving to make inclusion effective and impactful.

On the home front, I’m married to a high school special education teacher, and we’re proud parents to a 10-year-old and a 5-year-old. When I’m not working, I’m an avid reader and a dedicated sports mom.

I’m excited to share my experience and practical strategies with you to make your journey towards effective inclusion as smooth and successful as possible!

My name is Alison Macdonald, and I am a dedicated speech-language pathologist with a lifelong passion for helping others. My journey into the field began when my sister received support for a speech delay—my mom would often joke that I was the only one who could understand her! This early experience sparked my fascination with speech-language pathology.

After earning my master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Worcester State University, I embarked on my professional career at a pediatric outpatient clinic. There, I worked with children aged 3 to 22 with Autism and developmental disabilities, gaining invaluable experience with a diverse range of profiles, abilities, behaviors, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.

A few years later, I transitioned to an elementary school setting, where I supported students from kindergarten through fifth grade. It was in this role that I connected with my teacher bestie, Katie, and together we focused on creating meaningful inclusion opportunities for our shared learners.

Outside of my work in speech and language, I recently married one of my college best friends, who also works in the special education field. I enjoy running, reading, spending time at the beach, and Boston sports!
